Seeing Kill Bill, Vol. 2

I'll echo what pretty much everybody else has said and say that it was a lot like the first one, but way better. I think the scene with Pai Mei must be the best training sequence since Drunken Master. I wish it had been longer... I love me a good training sequence.

Anyway, even before the movie started, the trailers had me stupid excited:

- HAHAHA! [sweeps beard to the side]

- I thought it was very different from the first one, and definitely the slow half of the set, although still very good. It was at the same time more jokey and more sentimental. Also, the tone of Vol. 2 was much more western. The Pai Mei chapter was the only one that was like the stuff in Vol. 1.

If you watch one after the other, you'll notice Vol. 1 was Fucking Killer. There was little hope of anything matching that.

Also, I was amused to see how they worked around Carradine's horrible martial arts inadequacies.

- Zatoichi is actually not a samurai, or even a ronin. He is a masseuse.

- The best training sequence of all-time is in Shaolin Master Killer, with Gordon Liu.
