I think your sleep problems are not at all related to your caffeine addiction. Adam found himself drinking 2-3 2 liters of soda a day. I recommended replacing it w/ juice and he found it a great substitute (and healthier). Sometimes replacing caffeine w/ sugar can help ( ... )

Okay, then what do you think is my sleep problem? I do think that caffeine made it worse in some way, even if I don't know the exact mechanism.

The problem I have found isn't addiction to caffeine as much as the carbonation! I never gave up pop even if I wasn't having caffeine. I know I was having more water, though, even non carbonated but flavored, but I find I don't like just water. Unfortunately.

And unfortunately, I still have and like sugar! But at least with diet pop, my calorie intake was lessened. So much so, that I don't like the taste of sugar pop, even if I still like sugar snacks! Same goes for juice. I can handle one glass for breakfast of a cranberry or orange type drink but more than that I don't like to have.

Good points, don't get me wrong. Thanks for the ideas but now how about a solution? :)

I've always had pretty terrible insomnia, pretty much my entire life. It can take me hours to get to sleep. Caffeine alone isn't the cause, but it can definitely exacerbate the problem. I try to limit my caffeine intake to the morning hours. I do "cheat" at certain times, if I'm out or gaming or something, but I generally keep my normal, every day intake limited to first thing in the morning. And that's usually just a cup of english breakfast or chai, which isn't a whole lot of caffeine. And OMG, if I don't have any caffeine, I get massive headaches that absolutely will not go away.

Yes to insomnia to me as well. The problem, in part, was that my parents gave me a very schedule oriented life style. Bedtime was at a certain time, eventually being ten o'clock during high school, and so that stuck. It's taken me a long time to realize that I might have to break out of that schedule. I think it's partly because I have a 7-4 job that I have stuck with it.

And yes to not sleeping well. Sometimes hours even after no caffeine but yet I'm tired or I feel it. I know I'm not supposed to stay there if I'm not tired but I keep hoping that now I will fall asleep and get that few extra minutes! Ah well.

I'm hoping to make the headaches less if I don't have caffeine but I still do have them if I don't have any.
