I don't think the streaming option will go away--there are too many people who like/want that option for it to vanish anytime soon. Plus, that does seem to be the way things are going: renting physical media will slowly be phased out to the point where everyone will be expected to have a DVD player, computer, or gaming console to connect to the Internet and download/stream whatever movie/game they want to buy/rent.
