Fairytales
In a fairytale,
the kind you read in stories,
there is magic,
there is a spinning wheel
and a man with an impossible name.
(the pages turn
and you see the story end)
In a fairytale,
the kind you watch in snowglobes,
there is a girl
that talks to flowers,
there is a queen
in a winter castle,
and a boy
with a splintered memory.
(the world shakes
and you watch the snowflakes fall)
In a fairytale,
the kind you hear about,
there is a castle,
there is a princess,
and a crawling trellis
that the prince climbs.
(the voice stills,
and the spell is broken)
You live,
they say,
in that fractured existence.
