Mutual Funds... agamerslife March 21 2009, 14:58:34 UTC
I work for MFS Investment Management, which is a mutual fund whole sale company. I have personal experience with Fidelity (401(K)). And I am now (as in while writing this) looking into opening an account with T Rowe Price.

Jenny has T Rowe Price and highly recommends them as a company. I know nothing about their funds, yet. They have $10 a year Fee and no load mutual funds which is a fantastic combination.

We should chat about the topic as this is something that I'm personally interested in as well as something I do for work.

Awesome, I'd like that. I know Jenny was planning to go to this goths on wheels thing tonight, so if you're going, too, then I'll see you there...not that we have to discuss all that there, but you know.

I like my Roth IRA with T. Rowe Price because you DONT need a large lump sum to start it off, and you can contribute just $50 a month if you want (others require a large lump sum to start and up to $200 per month contributions required). I was able to start a Roth IRA years ago because T. Rowe Price did not require the lump sum to start with and I spent about a year only contributing $50 a month before I upped it. :)

A ROth IRA is like a "basket" - you then fill your basket with whatever mutual funds you want to invest in. I have the "target retirement date 4045" one, plus sometime soon I will add in some others. You can add/delete/change what your IRA is invested in (what is in your "basket" whenever you want (but I think there is a small fee).
