Later I turned this into a poem cuz I do that sometimesevilgetyoursFebruary 4 2017, 02:53:49 UTC
Fever nostalgia I remember being sick as a child A wordless confusion of heat and chills and exhaustion
Now I have more words, like 'gastroenteritis' and 'food-bourne bacteria' and 'free day off work' I've seen enlarged images of salmonella cells, pinkish, rod-shaped, studded with waving flagella.
This knowledge is no comfort on the bathroom floor, cold tile pressed against my panting, sweating, putrid corpse Knowing why something is happening doesn't make it any easier
Sickness makes me think of childhood Memories of being comforted and treated into health A small world tended by caring and certain adults Now I am an adult and so uncertain of everything Waiting half waking, wishing to be anywhere but here
