So, it's been about two weeks here in Waterloo now and business has died down enough for me to sit and think about something other than science.
Frosh Week
Frosh week was filled with confusion, people, yelling, and running. So much running. Pretty much right after being moved in (read: boxes dumped into room), I had to go and get registered for the Off-Campus Dons events. Stuck around until dinner and went home to unpack. I didn't actually go to anymore OCD events after this... I was either too tired or had other things to do, but I did go to every single faculty events (except for the cancelled bonfire which turned into a movie night...bleh) Why does being in Science mean "we're going to make you run or do some sort of physical exertion"? I talked to people in other faculties, they either stayed mostly indoors (Mathies) or just didn't do much in the physical activity department. Physical exertion took place in the form of: Science Olympics (not the do a reaction type, it was the Tug-of-war, Super Happy Fun Ball, chase after other people type of Olympics), Scavenger Hunt, and Leader Chase (hunt down other teams leaders and drag them back to base... they go limp when you tag them... wheeled recycling bins are so useful here) There was also a Secret Science Dance. I thought it was a party of some sort. TOTALLY WRONG. It's literally, a choreographed dance made specifically for each frosh year, so it's a secret. Our's went along to "Scientist" by The Dandy Warhols. I remember all the moves, but not the order. I'll try to link the slideshow that shows it in action, if it ever gets put online.
Cross-campus wise, I thought things were kind of unorganized. There was no room to do much during Monte Carlo Night, so went home early. The Rugby game rocked, even though it was facking cold and wet. UW beat UofT 66-7. I got my cheer on, even though I think that Waterloo has some of the worst cheers I've ever heard in my life. Toga was alright... saw Jeff and hung with him and his new friends for a bit, but Jeff and I left early once songs started sucking and we got surrounded by couples.... They were either grinding (ugh...) or swaying, making things awkward for me and Jeff.
Classes are going alright. Everything's review with a bit of new stuff sprinkled randomly in. I hate Physics. It makes me feel like my brain is melting from the sheer redundancy of it all. There were no tutorials or labs this week (well, one Chemistry lab, which was a "Skills Test"), so my class hours were halved. We'll see how next week goes with all the extra worked piled on. Oh, and my Psychology 101 course makes me happy and reinforces my desire to apply for Psychology major at the end of March (I've met only like 2 or 3 people who are actually in my program... that made me sad).
