Initial speculative guess about the larger than normal ants being Carpenter Ants seemed ideal, but I've noted an oddity which has cast some doubt on that

Carpenter ants do shove the winged ones out - males and queens both - to spread the colony when they think it's warm enough; I do suspect there's a large nest somewhere too close for comfort if you're seeing them often. :/
