Guys, let me show you something. Something embarrassing about my city. So, this kind of happened last night, the tl;dr of which is: Bunch of high school role-players got part of Millennium Park shut down and evacuated with a "suspicious package" made of duct tape and two bricks (and, according to one report with an earlier timestamp than the ( Read more... )

It's about time the officials started cracking down on that kind of hardcore nerdery. LARPing out in public, in the middle of the city? That kind of intensive dorkery has traditionally been confined to basements and the back rooms of comic book stores for a reason: people can get hurt! Take note, nerds.

Aw, glad the conservatory is somewhat up and running! I hope they got a lot of donations flooding in after the storm. It's just such a gorgeous place!

You've been repressed for too long and have succumbed to the lawful-conformity complex! It is time to rise above, to take a stand against the War on Nerd Pastimes in Public. (The whole flashmob thing was a codeword for gangs, and I kind of hate the Chicago media for deciding to label it that way.)

There's been at least one fundraiser so far for it, and I'm expecting others (I really wanted to go to the one last week. It was at the Hideout, which is this neat little music venue over on the west side.) I actually dropped another donation in their bin when I visited yesterday, and after I got back there was an email in my inbox thanking me for my donation and I was all weirded out because my first thought was "Dude, that was cash, how did they know??"

...But then I realized it was about the online donation.
