So yeah, I'm not going to candy-coat this. I read Twilight. Sheesh, I also read New Moon and Eclipse. I haven't brought myself to read Breaking Dawn yet because I feel I have lost a little piece of my soul and sanity with each page of the eleventymillion page long saga. And guess what: IT IS HORRIBLE!!!!!111oneoneone ( Read more... )

I think I give Harry Potter an undue bad rap because I cannot stand the craze that came from it. I read the first one before the craze started and rode it until I couldn't take it anymore ( I think I made it to #3). I also get cranky about J.K. Rowling because her publishing company makes me sign AN AFFADAVIT before I am able to purchase her books for the library. That, to me, is just insane, and pompous.

I like Snape too! But I always tend to prefer the "evil" characters over the goodie-goodies.
I do admit, I did enjoy the Harry Potter novels I read, but I just fell away from them when the craze hit. I may go back and read the rest one of these days just to see how things turn out.

reading this reminds me of the time you gave me decongestant and i fell down the stairs at your house. i think because i'd rather do that again than read Twilight.

HAHAHA! I actually laughed out loud remembering your spill down the stairs...I mean, um, I am completely concerned that you are okay. And I have been throwing myself down the stairs to punish myself for wasting my life reading those books.

My only question... How in the hell did it take you 1690 pages to STOP READING?? I refuse to pick the things up. Hell, I damn near HATE Harry Potter; I confess, I read the first two books before I came to this conclusion, but that was only a drop in the bucket compared to your page count.
That's ridiculous... I don't care how fast you read. I mean, damn... this late in the game you might as well just finish the series, at least to know how it ends, see if all the eye-bleeding you've already gone through is worth it. Stopping now would be like dropping out of high school in your Senior year.
And yes, your book sounds more interesting ;)

I know, I am a glutton for punishment...but I pushed through them because I feel like I spent so much time and so many pages that I have to see it through to see what happens...just like your analogy of dropping out in senior year. But honestly, keeping with that analogy, I feel like the kid who is failing every class and getting my ass beat up at school everyday of the week, so ya know, I might just drop out and take the GED (meaning I have read the synopsis of the last book on wikipedia and might just say that was good enough).

That's totally fair.
My brother actually did something similar (minus the failing class or getting beat up parts) in his Junior year, so I can understand :)

You think the book is bad? Well, I read the entire book on Saturday and didn't mind it so much... until I went and saw the movie.

It was the worst movie I've seen in my life. And I'm not exaggerating. I was so uncomfortable, I laughed thru most of it. And I wasn't the only one. I should have gotten my $10 back.

Yes, I've heard the movie was horrible.
So, okay, Twilight, the first book, wasn't as god-awful as I make it out to be. It was silly, redundant, and poorly written, but the story was fairly decent. It wasn't until I wasted half of my life reading the next two that the story got worse and worse to the point of sucking with a mighty fury.

I have the next one on hold at the library... (and why do I have it on hold? I dunno. I guess - like you - I'm searching for some spectacular revelation, some reason why all these people are going ga-ga over it ( ... )

I believe they explained the high school thing that they had to "blend" by attending high school and be inconspicuous. However, I think the exact opposite of conspicuous is skipping school once every few weeks to go "hiking".
