I watched the Full Metal Alchemist movie on Sunday, I think I might have to get somebody more versed in this than me to tell me why Hitler-cult-religious artifacts is such a common trope in fantasy films. Is it all due to Indiana Jones? or was it a particular idiosyncrasy of the Führer? Be honest if your suppositions are heavily influenced by wishful thinking.
I will try to keep my love of "Chiseled WWII Flying Ace Punches Hitler In The Jaw To Prevent Him From Raising Atlantis, Raiding It For Technology" plots out of it.
But yes! There's a lot of historical evidence that Hitler and his cronies went in for this kind of stuff. Some of the inner-circle of the reich was absolutely fascinated by the occult and nordic mythology. The passion for spiritualism peaked a few decades earlier but it started up interest in mystic societies like the Rosicrucians. Nazi Germany took that interest and unfortunately blended it with that very special mix of crazy racist nationalism that was so popular at the time. This fellow has a pretty good write-
