A message is sent out to all city agents, via Burbank. Most will receive letters with the familiar vanishing ink. Myra and Ichi will also get the message by PINpoint text message, marked as from Burbank rather than The Shadow directly. Chaz Walters will have to make do with the more traditional paper method, but she at least should be familiar with ( Read more... )

Understood. Burbank receives the simple reply from Myra.

The Old Tiger receives a separate message from her entirely.

When is it not a night for standing by? Been a while since I heard from you Chief.

This is an All Agents Stand By. This started in the '60's, this Devil's Night business. Lots of vandalism and arson. The police can't be everywhere.

Been busy, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Ichi isn't entirely certain what this is all about, but he figures the reply would best be sent to The Shadow directly.

Devil's Night?

The reply is slow in coming, as is often the case when The Shadow is busy, but eventually a voice reply arrives.

October thirtieth, the night before Halloween-a holiday I can explain later. There's usually an excess of vandalism and arson that night. I may just have you keep an ear out for trouble. Don't worry about it.

The response is in Ichi's usual Japanese.

Oh is this like last year in the Nexus? I remember it was around the same time, and there were sweets.

He laughs.

And you were in quite a mood.

Yes. Was I? Maybe this year you'll get to learn why.

That almost sounds like a threat.

The Shadow receives a voice message from his younger self. There is something of amusement in his tone, though it would only be detectable by one who knows the voice intimately.

Since when has it been protocol to put Reldon on standby without my prior knowledge?

Since when is she not on standby? You've got a few decades before this annoyance starts. I'm just backing up the police. I won' t take her if you have need of her.

It's a very similar tone, although he means that second part.

I do not foresee any assignments for her at that time. She'll receive notification that she may spend her time in your world unless recalled.

If she's going to be on standby, she might as well be in the Old Tiger's world and more readily available to respond should he need her.

Understood. It should be easy work.
