I don't know what the job situation is out there, but...
Would this job be bearable as short term prospect?
In that case, lie in your teeth about wanting to take advantage of their prospects, and take it as a stop gap while you look as hard as possible for another job.
You don't have to stick with that as a career path if you don't want to, but getting some sales experience could be handy in accounting - or indeed anywhere

I agree with Lil Shepherd; use it as a stop gap -- it's supposedly easier to find a job when you have a job.
That said, I completely understand where you're coming from but have never had the 'luxury' of deciding to take a job or not, really, because I've always never been in a position to financially be able to pass on any employment that came my way.
Another vote for taking this as a stop gap... Just because you take it, doesn't mean you can't keep looking around for something you'd prefer to be doing.
Agreeing on taking a serious interest in their entry level opportunity. Who knows maybe the person they did hire for the accounting job doesn't work out and then you can slide right in there, already familiar with the company. A job is better than no job.
But I can understand your fear of settling for something you aren't feeling is a right match for you. I kept my previous job for three years and hated 90% of it, but kept reminding myself that it was a paycheck.

Otherwise, look for temp work elsewhere.
