I LOVED IT I ABSOLUTELY WHOLEHEARTEDLY LOVED IT!!!

Oh my god oh my god

I can’t even say how much I loved this movie. It was SO much funnier than I expected. My audience was laughing SO MUCH and clapping and cheering and I missed an awful lot of dialogue, in fact, from the laughter. (Which is fine because I WILL be back at the theater this weekend at least twice)

And it was so touching, too. I teared up/cried when Peter cried for his mother, both as a child and an adult. And when Rocket cried for Groot.

And oh god it was so BEAUTIFUL. Visually, emotionally, all of it. Knowhere was stunning. The Collector’s lair. Xandar. The Nova Corps’ blockade. And that moment when Groot released the lights, and they all stood there in awe. So many moments when I just sat there gaping at the screen with a huge shit-eating grin on my face.

COSMO!!!!

And was that Galactus that the Collector showed when he was talking about previous owners of the Infinity Stones? Also, nice to see the Other again, even if he didn’t last very long.

So let’s talk characters.

Peter, my Peter, my Star-Lord. Oh my God how I love him. I LOVE that they hinted at his half-Spartoi heritage without actually coming out and saying so. And the hint at Jason Quill and his dickness was all kinds of awesome.

I loved loved loved Peter’s self-sacrificing ways. That’s one of the things that draws me to a hero like nothing else. When he went out into space to save Gamora, I knew I was lost (not that I hadn’t been before, but still. that was a singular moment). His humor, his heart, his almost desperately sad clinging to the artifacts of his life on Earth, his charm…just all of him. Not to mention the utter beauty of Chris Pratt.

Gamora was all kinds of awesome! So beautiful and deadly and determined, and my heart ached for her when she tried to save Nebula, because of course she never could. I want to see so much more of her and Drax learning to be friends, and I’m SO thankful there was no romance with Peter, which I was frankly dreading.

Rocket just stole the movie. So freaking funny and yet I teared up when he was shouting about how he hadn’t asked to be made and how they took him apart and put him back together again because oh my God how horrifying. His attachment to Groot was the best, and his “okay I’m standing, now we’re all standing, we’re all jackasses” line was the best. Also, at the end I was just waiting for him to start wagging his tail when Drax petted him.

Groot was amazing. My mom thinks he’s the best and proclaimed that it’s now her mission in life to find a Groot figurine. :-) Peter mocking his speech when they first met was hilarious, along with Rocket saying he only knew “I”, “am” and “Groot” - in that order. :-D But he had so much heart, and giving his life for his friends had me in tears, even though I knew he couldn’t be killed so long as that single twig remained. Not to mention, how adorable was he in that credits scene?? :-D

So yeah. Tl;dr, I LOVED THIS MOVIE
