On a serious note: United 93 is coming out soon. The film about the airplane, that was planning on hitting the whitehouse or the capitol, that crashed in Pennsylvania. I would like to know everyone's thought on the matter. Is it too soon to make movies about 9/11? They are, i believe, more movies coming out about the subject matter. I know of ( Read more... )

I think part of the proceeds are going... somewhere. I don't remember where they said. Personally I think it's too soon, even if the proceeds ARE going to a good cause. Think about how many years after the fact that the movie "Pearl Harbor" was made. Yes, the people it impacted were still alive, but they weren't the target movie-going audience anymore. The whole argument in the Cigar about Hemingway writing some book a year after some event happened is bogus, because people have been writing, arguing, trying in court this event pretty much since it happened. But a movie... it's crossing the line, I think.

My initial reaction is that it is way too soon. But if you think about it, they were churning out movies about WWII, etc as the war was still going on.

The reason I am supporting the movie is because the writer/director received permission from all of the victims' family members. They all want this movie made, and were involved in helping to cast the actors as a means of remembering their loved ones and getting the story of such heroism out to the public. Film is such a powerful medium....I think it's better they do it right this way then have shoddy tv-movies, books, etc.

Absolutely too soon, people are still and forever be shocked and affected. Wounds aren't even healed and it's definitely too soon. I honestly don't know if I want to go watch this movie. I want to, ...but i don't know if I should out of respect....I don't know.

I'm with you, Dicky. Too soon. And even if the studio is donating half of their after-cost profits to a good cause, or the victims' families....that leaves 50% for the studio. It doesn't seem right, for anyone to be making cash off a tragedy, especially one that happened barely five years ago ( ... )
