» Canon Point: January 1st, 2010 - after deciding to spare Ryoji and fight Nyx.
» Gender: Male.
» Age: 17 mentally and physically in canon, physically aged to 18 in Atia.
» Orientation: Like his later counterpart in Persona 4, Minato is quite the ladies' man, perhaps even moreso - with his female Social Links, you're not even given the option to keep your relationship platonic, if you want to max them out. Minato has a possible total of seven girlfriends if the player manages to balance their time correctly. Regardless of whether or not he manages to woo any or all of the dateable girls, he shows a definite interest in women. His friendship with Kenji Tomochika starts when Kenji suggests that Minato become his “wingman”, and he later comes to Minato for advice when he gets “romantically involved” with a teacher. Also, when Minato first arrives at Gekkoukan High School, he immediately becomes the talk of the town for having already formed a relationship with Yukari Takeba, though it is merely an acquaintanceship at the time, and he gains a bit of a reputation quickly, however undeserved it might be.
Minato finds himself in a few wacky situations during his year in Port Island, usually at Junpei's behest. When they make a trip to the beach, he challenges Minato and Akihiko to a contest to see who can pick up a girl, culminating in the famous “Operation Babe Hunt”. They're all fairly unsuccessful, but Minato comes the closest when he finds Aigis - though she isn't interested in him in the way they had hoped. On the school trip, he gets mixed up in another of Junpei's (and Ryoji's) schemes: to catch a glimpse of the girls in the hot springs, though it ends up backfiring again when they have to try and narrowly escape Mitsuru's “execution”.
Overall, Minato shows a concrete interest in girls, like most boys his age, and there isn't really much evidence for interest in males, though he has many close friendships with them, and would probably even attract the interest of others. For all intents and purposes, he is heterosexual, though due to his high regard for the safety of his friends, he wouldn't let anyone fall victim to their collar, if worse came to worst.
» Personality: A silent protagonist's personality is up to some degree of interpretation, but they also have an inner voice that emerges in their actions and occasional dialogue. Minato is polite and patient, as evidenced by the many friendships he forms with all types of people of varying temperaments. It seems that he'll give anyone a chance, or at least the benefit of the doubt, though he has no tolerance for evil. His calm demeanor and level-headed attitude make him a perfect fit for the role of S.E.E.S's leader (much to the chagrin of his hot-headed friend Junpei). His detachment from the main events in general allows him to make crucial, unbiased decisions where others with more personal connections might fail. For instance, Mitsuru and Yukari both have family members involved in the mysteries behind Persona research and Tartarus, and their personal biases make them unfit to lead the group. Minato has no one to look out for other than himself or his friends, so he is able to make careful decisions that would be best for everyone.
Minato cares for his friends and is willing to put himself in danger to protect them. On top of being a rather charming individual, he's a formidable foe in battle and makes top marks at school, though when he first arrives at Gekkoukan, he's somewhat shy and reserved. (A key part of gameplay is leveling up Minato's stats in courage, charm, and academics, as well as his physical strength in Tartarus, proving that nothing is gained without hard work.) Despite what it may seem, though, he's not perfect - it can be presumed that he has a lot of pent-up emotion concerning the death of his family, and later, the fate that he's carrying on his shoulders. Also, in some of his dialogue options when interacting with the social links, it's shown that he has a bit of an apathetic side. He can be blunt, but never tries to hurt anyone intentionally.
He carries himself in an almost lazy manner - hands in his pockets, hair in his face, and headphones over his ears to block out the chaos around him. Those who don't know him might look at him and assume he's a bit of an airhead, but that's not it - he can be a little unaware at times but he's quite bright and observant. Overall, Minato is of admirable character - strong, courageous, attractive, and friendly. After all, not many people would throw themselves in the face of death like he did.
» Appearance: Minato has a rather unremarkable appearance. His hair is a dark blue, cut in a style that lets long wisps hang over one of his eyes, contributing to a lazy look. His eyes are the same color as his hair. He's given no facial expressions in the game, except in anime cutscenes, but in the manga he often looks sleepy or surprised, but always calm. He wears the Gekkoukan uniform on school days, and on weekends, he's dressed in stylish but simple dark colors that complement his natural tones. One thing that makes his appearance unique is the pair of earphones he always has hanging around his neck. He's only shown wearing them once, in the opening cutscene, but at the time he was using them to block out the noise of the subway and the people around, replacing the new, unpleasant sounds with music. Minato can be fairly reserved, and the way he dresses and carries himself reflects that.
Since Minato is 17 in canon, it's unlikely that his appearance would change much after being aged up by only a few months. (He doesn't have a canon birthdate, since he is supposed to be a sort of self-insert for the player, but he'd be at least 17 by January 1st, 2010, which is where I'm taking him from in his timeline.)
» Suitability: Minato is only a few months from 18, anyway, but nonetheless, he is mature for his age. When maxing his social links with the dateable girls, he brings them up to his room, embracing them and then the screen fades to black. Sexual activity or intimacy is heavily implied by the dialogue, and he doesn't have an aversion to romance. As for the possibility of death, it's not something he fears, as he willingly dies to save the world and seal away Nyx.

[ The feed clicks on and you see Minato glancing down at his new collar, looking a little confused and worried, all while trying to remain calm. ]
...Can anyone answer some questions for me? I'm...a little lost. [ Minato silently wonders if anyone can even see this, or if he's just talking to himself. ]
...
[ There's a few moments of silence as he considers the situation. ]
I'll leave this on just in case anyone can help.
[ He steps away from the camera and out of view, though occasionally visible in the background as he's quietly and cautiously exploring his new surroundings. ]

Minato awakens with a start, jerking his eyes open to the usual sight of pieces of hair in his face. Sticky with a cold sweat, he pushes the hair out of his eyes, but the first thing he notices is the discomforting tension in his groin as he's laying there in a bed. The second thing he notices is that he's indeed laying in a bed - one that is not his own back in the dorm. In fact, the surrounding room looks completely unfamiliar, and this alone worries him far more than the unknown source of wetness between his legs. His first instinct is to think he's been kidnapped - or that he's in some bizarre dream - but he's racking his brain to find a motivation and coming up with nothing.
He's frozen in place as he examines his surroundings, not wanting to make any sudden moves and endanger himself. The room is like a hotel room, quite lavish and nonthreatening. As far as he can see, the only thing out of the ordinary is his very presence. Minato moves to pull the covers off of himself when he realizes that his clothes are gone, save for a choker that wasn't there before.
Minato rises from bed, after looking around one more time to make sure no one is watching, and drags the bed cover along with him. He glances in the mirror, and little has changed - though he looks slightly taller than he remembers, but it could just be his eyes playing tricks on him. He then searches for a way to remove the collar.
...Where's the buckle? He tugs at it, spinning around in the mirror and craning his neck to try and get a 360 degree view of the thing, but sees no way to remove it. Weird. Looks like I'll need to find a pair of scissors.
The collar is the least of his worries, at the moment, no matter how strange it was. When he spots his clothes sitting at the foot of the bed, he approaches them carefully and gets dressed, not wasting a moment that could be spent finding his way home, or at the very least, finding some answers. It'd be foolish to get himself hurt or lost only a day after they'd agreed to fight for the existence of humanity.
Minato glances at himself in the mirror one more time, narrowing his eyes. I can never seem to remember my dreams when I need to the most. ...Though judging from my reaction, it probably wasn't important. He sighs and looks over at the door. I don't have much time. The most important thing right now is to get back to the dorm as fast as I can.
He exits the room without another thought, not having noticed the device sitting there. If there was any chance his friends were in trouble, he knew he didn't have time to waste searching that room top to bottom.
