more books:)
i've tried to write this about 3 times now, but everytime something interferes before i get very far (last night it was pictures of pretty horses, so it's not always bad things, but more often a time-suck thing:P). I am going with J to look at an apartment soon, but i will sneak in a few more books while i have a good chance;)
41/3 Reunion in Death by JD Robb
I like when Eve works on cold cases; it gives me hope in a weird way, that people won't be forgotten. This has strong fantasy elements (in terms of her relationship with Roarke, her clothes and material privileges, not in terms of dragons or that kind of fantasy), which occasionally took me out of the story, but it's also gut-wrenching and made me cry, so that may have just made those fantasy elements more apparent to me.
42 Captain Alatriste by Arturo Pérez-Reverte
I wanted to like this, and kinda did, but i couldn't quite fully engage with it.... I think part of that was coz of the translation- it was sometimes off (esp. colloquially, which i know can't always be helped), and there were somethings not translated (whether for effect or because there isn't a straightforward translation) that would've helped me if they had been. I think i lost something in the translation....
43/4 Theft of Swords by Michael J Sullivan
This was "comforting" fantasy for me. I really liked the fantasy, and the adventures and the characters:) The second book is different that in first in tone, which i found a little odd to adjust to when reading them as one tome.
44/5 Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey
I found the author got the teenage voices right (not too dumb but not precocious), and i liked her mythos of Vampired being born, BUT I found it quite anti-feminist and sexist, often using "the old ways" as an excuse. Lucius is arrogant, domineering and patronizing:( Maybe he'll grow over the series, which would be a refreshing change from a lot of other books of this type, but i'm not overly eager to read the next one....
45/6 Beauty Sleep by Cameron Dokey
This was pretty sweet, and i liked her variations on the fairytale. Her writing style is very fragmented though, and it good, but not great.
46 Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom
this was a quick read, kinda easy but not too light; maybe accessible is a better word for it:) I particularly liked the part on aging, and this quote "Invest in the human family. Invest in people. Build a little community of those you love and who love you." -good advice:)
