trying to get caught up

hoping to get all this year's books posted before Dec 31st.

151 Horses Never Lie about Love: The Heartwarming Story of a Remarkable Horse Who Changed the World Around Her by Jana Harris
although True Colors is a big part of this book, it's really not just about her at all. Many horses are featured, each with their own story. some parts are pretty disturbing, particularly the parts about Harris' childhood, and what T.C goes though just before Harris gets her. There are a few mistakes stylistically- Harris repeats herself, and for a section Kells is Kelly, although she never mentioned calling him that before, and he goes back to Kells after a while. She does have on of the best euphemisms for swears words though- "oh, words with one syllable!":D:P

152/24 One Kind Word: Women Share Their Abortion Stories edited by Martha Solomon
GoodReads Firstreads Giveaway win!:)
articulate, diverse and soul-touching

153 The Archie Wedding: Archie in Will You Marry Me? by Michael E. Uslan
fun, silly, cute inside jokes and cultural references

154 The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard #1) by Scott Lynch
I quite liked this- neat world building, good twisty plot, engaging characters. I liked how it was told through present day and flashbacks, without leaving you lost for too long:P I found the descriptions of violence and torture pretty gratuitous, esp towards the end, and that lowered my enjoyment of this, and my sympathy for the characters.

155 Sure Signs of Crazy by Karen Harrington
very relateable and realistic. Heartbreaking and hopeful and beautiful.

156 Grim edited by Christine Johnson
an enjoyable collection, with a few standouts. TW for rape, assault, incest... I suppose i should've expected those since their retellings of Grimm stories, but I was caught off-guard and my enjoyment of this collection was significantly diminished by the descriptions of these abuses.

157 Andre the Giant: Life and Legend by Box Brown
fairly simple style, honest but sympathetic. A quick read that gives a good overview of Andre's life, rather than an in-depth look; it still manages to get the complexities across.

158 Ava and Pip by Carol Weston
sweet, fun, true-to-life. I'm not sure it's 4 stars for me, but to be honest, it may only be suffering for having read it right after Sure Signs of Crazy by Harrington.

159 Renegade Magic (Kat, Incorrigible #2) by Stephanie Burgis
charming and clever, though a bit predictable

160 My Real Children by Jo Walton
This was so very very good! I loved how real and plausible everything seemed, even as her life diverged so much. intriguing and thought-provoking and relevant and speculative and imaginative.

now only about 20 behind:P
