I semi-randomly have difficulty sleeping. Sometimes it's straight up insomnia -- this seems vaguely but not strictly related to caffeine intake earlier in the day; oddly it seems coffee has more of an effect than soda. I think the "involuntary twitching" is restless-leg syndrome. I've had it for years. It goes away when I'm on pain killers (for my back):

I've been using f.lux for the past 9 months in the evenings, and got blue-blocking glasses (Seacoat lenses from Nikon). I do not know if I have statistically significant results in terms of better sleep; I think there is some correlation that has been shown b/w blue spectrum light interrupting melatonin production/delivery.

I also semi-randomly have difficulty sleeping (usually staying asleep past 3-5am, not falling asleep usually.)

Have you tried magnesium? Mainly to stop the twitching, but can also help sleep.

There is an optimal amount. Too much and ...
