S. and I saw Yes Man today. I went not without some trepidation, as it looked utterly stupid.
Hey, KB,
what do you guys think?
Jason: you know what movie i won't be seeing this holiday season? "yes man," with jim carrey
Mike: ya, imagine the brainstorming it took to get that one off the ground
Jason: "how about a guy who can't lie?....really? we did that already?...ok, how about a guy who can't say no?"
Mike: "perfect...jim, make a crazy face...good, good...think you can bounce yourself off a wall or something?...great, let's do this."
So you could say I had pretty low expectations. And for most of the first act, the movie was kinda cheesy. Then it got surprisingly better. It wasn't a laugh riot, but was reasonably entertaining, and the romantic angle wasn't cloying and might even have been believable. Except Jim Carrey's no spring chicken any more. But it worked.
Trailers:
- The Proposal: Hey, I've got a great pitch -- it's about two wacky people who can't get along, or have a power imbalance, and get forced into a sham marriage and then discover their true love for one another! That's never been done before! Seriously, the next people who write a movie with that plot should be taken out back and shot for the good of humanity. As you might imagine, the IMDB lists
a number of movies with this title; this one is the
2009 one. Apparently they didn't realize or care that there was
another one in 2008 which, frankly, sounds a lot more interesting.
- Night at the Museum 2: I
liked the first one a lot, so I'm glad to see they did a sequel. Looks like all of the main cast returns.
- Watchmen: I couldn't really get an impression from this, as I am wholly unfamiliar with the source material, but I get the impression from those who are that they're pretty geeked out about this.
- Mall Cop: looks like it could actually be fun and enjoyable
