Going to the movies

I went to the movies on Sunday. I saw Snow White and the Huntsman. It was great and weak, amazing and trite. Kristen Stewart cannot act her way out of a box. She just looks lost and confused ALL THE TIME. Charlize Theron, however = SWOON. Her Evil Queen was so delicious, so perfect, exquisite. If you like folk lore and fairy tales, see this. Your thoughts on Katy Pery remind me a bit about A's FB post on GoT (which I only scanned, because I just started watching and I don't want to get spoiled for plot)....but it got me thinking about what is our responsibility as viewers/listeners/readers when we enjoy something that is problematic for various reasons.

I'm torn between enjoying something because I enjoy it, while also recognizing that by engaging in entertainment that perpetuates things I object to, I'm part of the problem. Ugh.

For me, the key is recognizing the problematic bits and wading through the discomfort. What bothers me most is when people just refuse to see that something they like has problems at all. Actually, there's another post here waiting to be written.....
