Cyberboard: Windows only. Free. Popular.

Also works quite well under WINE.

If so, then it may also work under Darwine/Winebottler/CrossOverMac, although I've never tried any of them myself. Downloading Winebottler right now to give it a whirl.

For those who don't know about WINE and its derivatives, it's a program that allows you to run (some) Windows programs directly under Linux/Unix/Mac without having to run Windows. (If you do want to run Windows on a Mac, you've probably already heard of BootCamp, VMWare, Parallels, and VirtualBox.)

On the 40k and warhammer forums, the one always discussed is Vassal. I understand that it's pretty easy to use once you learn it, though a bit time-consuming, especially when you're learning. Obviously not nearly as satisfying as actual painted minis on a real table, and you have to make some compromises and simplifications regarding LOS, but I know a lot of people enjoy it a great deal and use it to play friends or strangers around the world remotely.
