Missing Capote

Finished Capote's Answered Prayers (why is it that I'm positively dyslectic on the word "finished"?! I'm unable to get it right on the first attempt).

It amused me that I read the goriest and bloodiest bit while eating very rare steak.

As I mentioned in another entry, this had a very un-Capote-ish feel to it in its explicit language and descriptions ( Read more... )

truman capote, novels, sara gruen, sylvian hamilton, finished books, jaqueline susann, ray bradbury

Ha, Water for Elephants is currently my "Book at Work". I'm quite enjoying it, especially the way the main character is portrayed as an old man ("Ninety. Or ninety-three.").

I had to order more of the book because we only had one copy in the shelf and I was scared someone wanted to buy it before I finish it... I still have a bit to go.

Someone recced it to me, but I can't for the life of me remember who. Gosh darn it. I'll probably enjoy it, since I enjoy everything that's got carnivals.

I also recently picked up Something Wicked This Way Comes. It's near the top of my to-read pile. (The only attribute affecting position in the pile is when I put it there, or what I moved when I last attempted to tidy.

Capote's Cold Blood is sitting there too.

The important thing is to get it right on the last attempt.

Read In Cold Blood, asap. It's as close to beautiful writing as it gets.

Then watch the film Capote.

There should be only one attempt. I hate making speeling mistakes.

I am promoting In Cold Blood further up my pile, on your recommendation.

My daughter recommended the film too.

I think In Cold Blood made it to my top twenty books list. It should have, at least.

WONDERFUL film. But read ICB first.

Valley of the Dolls is wicked good fun, although I wanted to shake Anne almost throughout the book. In my mind's eye, she looks exactly like Janet Leigh.

Grace Kelly.

I read 200 pages of it yesterday. Wicked good fun indeed!

"More or less squeeing"

Now that is something I'd like to see/hear.

Brilliant book!
