Proboscidean book sale

Mar 05, 2007 13:26

Every other year, there's a massive national book sale in Norway called the Mammut (Mammoth in English, of course) sale. It's usually pretty crap in my opinion, as I already own most of the interesting books or don't want them in translation. The fun thing with the Mammut sale is actually which books from their own stock each shop choose to put on ( Read more... )

I ordered "Lokes lek" and "Unn fra stjernesteinene" - both by authors whose names I've forgotten. And "Velkommen til alveland" plus "Velkommen til dvergenes rike" for my daughter, I think she'll like them. The thing I like about this sale is that sometimes I find books that I've forgotten I wanted to buy and all of a sudden they cost almost no money at all. And sometimes, like this year, books pop up that look like they might have something to do with the norse religion or the time around the arrival of christianity in the North, and I've never even heard of them. Lovely.

I noted that this year the books don't come as cheap as they used to, btw. Where are all the 49,50 books? My three hardcover books cost about what they would have in paperback editions.

This sale makes me wish I had a sprog. There are always lots of lovely children's books.

Oh, and this year they have a really pretty edition of Snorre. Too bad I already own one... I might go get Voluspå, but I have to check at home first, I think I have a complete edition already.

I've already got two lovely edidions of Snorre. One for me, including lots and lots of fabolous pagan art from all over the western world, and one for the spud. A sort of "children's edition", where everything is illustrated and explained. Lovely, lovely books. Voluspå is lovely as well.

But yes, they are a bit more expensive this year, aren't they. Still, 68 kroner for each of the children's books isn't all that bad.

Fabulous. Gah, I hate it when I do that.

Oh, and I shouldn't buy any more books until I'd finished my to-read list.

Why not?

Just buy them and add them to your to-read list. Problem solved.

The pile of books I already need to add to my to-read list is rather overwhelming...

By the way, have you started Garbadale yet?

By the way, have you started Garbadale yet?

Now, if I say, "Yes!", will that initiate a dash to finish it first?

Now, if I say, "No!", will that lull you into a false sense of security?

Now, if is say, "Maybe!", will that be interpretted as a, "Yes!", but not wanting to say incase it gives you a spurt of energy to read it faster?

Given that I'm a slow reader and have a busy weekend coming up as I'm on the committee for Phoenix Con, I had better just come clean and say, "Yes!" Have read about 60 pages and am getting into the characters.

I'll probably finish it tomorrow. If I post about it, I'll play nice and hide spoilers behind a cut.

Maybe.
