I have spent all day today reading for my course. Well, most of today, because I also baked bread and flapjacks, and cleaned my fridge, but you know what I mean ( Read more... )

I think 5'9" and 125 lbs is pretty darn small. I mean, it's not small for an anoretic but I think it's smaller than average. But then, I'm a fat American (really, I'm kind of fat right now) so I'm not sure I'm the best judge.

That said, I think vanity sizing has gone a bit out of control. Because while I think you're fairly small for your height, you're still going to have larger (or at least longer) bones than a petite short person. So what the heck would they do? Do they have an XS size?

I wasn't implying I'm fat (and I don't believe you are either!!), more that 5'9 is pretty tall. I meant what would petite, short people do? Maybe they all buy XS, but I didn't see any XS stuff.

You're right - there's a difference between someone who is tall and on the thin side and someone who is short and petite.

I've got a pair of Medium sized leggings from there and they're ridiculously long on me (I'm 5'7") and not exactly loose but a pretty generous fit. But according to their size chart I should be a Large!
So I'd question that their sizes run small ...!

Long-legged leggings?! Must go back there! I always find leggings to be way too short.

I'm petite but slightly overweight (4' 11", about 127lbs most of the time). Not slim, but still pretty small.

In Zara, a few weeks ago I tried a size "Large" jacket that I couldn't fasten & which were too narrow across the shoulders.

Equally I've come across the odd range where XS is still a generous size 12.

I've concluded that manufacturers who make their garments in S/M/L as opposed to real sizes are even less reliably sized than others. Though I say this as someone who has garments in the wardrobe sized from 6 - 14, all of which I wear regularly.

Hmmn, what you said about S/M/L as opposed to real sizes is probably true. It makes sense, really, doesn't it? I always seem to be an 8 or 10, and I'm always surprised if I'm an 8 (and angry if an 8 is too big, because it really oughtn't to be for someone of my height).
