you're right. it is definitely not fair. hopefully though, he is not suffering anymore, if he was suffering along his journey. you did so much just by thinking of being involved---bone marrow is NOT an easy transfer...
my mom works in cancer care. i don't know how she does it. she has a strength i do not. and you have a strength just for being involved.
it may not feel like you did much, but you definitely did.
I'm sorry to hear this Hava. :( You may not have known him, but you were connected to him on a very basic, personal level nonetheless.
You did as much as you could do. Your willingness and openness to give this man another chance was a gift in and of itself, especially considering what a difficult process bone marrow transfer can be.
I'm sorry events transpired this way. I agree with the others: you did what few people have the courage and strength to do - you let this man and his family know that there was someone who cared so much that she was willing to make this supremely difficult effort of mind, heart, and body for someone she hadn't even met. If it doesn't sound cheesy from someone your own age, I'm proud of you. (Heck, even if it does sound cheesy)
Hava - you let him know that there was someone out there who was willing to take time out of their own life to make his better, even though you never met him. You did him a world of good.
