*coughspluttercough* Ok, am dying of PLAGUE and/or TYPHUS! Or, y'know, flu. I just can't seem to shake this one :( Damn viruses (viri?)!

I've been reading a very interesting book ozfille sent me (thanks again, ozfille!) called Mother Clap's Molly House, about gay subcultures in England during the 18th and 19th centuries. ( Read more... )

jensen ackles, i'm a drunk!, house, work, slash, life, family

Have to agree with you about the offhand manner the author treated male/male rape and I found the book on occasion somewhat repetitious, but overall it wasn't that bad.

Yeah, there was a lot of repetition that could have been used to discuss some of the cases in depth, but it was very interesting. I thought the idea that it was the sodomiser, rather than the sodomisee who was gay/effeminate/immoral etc. was intriguing, as it's the complete opposite in Rome and modern western society. Huh. Maybe a comparative study is in order *g*

Oh no, plague! I hope you're feeling better. Doc Martin + chocolate sounds like a good start, I have to say...
