OK, really, really need to stop drinking now. Mainly in order not to die. Thus I am declaring April NO-DRINKING MONTH (not as catchy as OctSOBERfest, I know, but I can't wait around for a nicely titled month). I’ll keep you updated on my progress *g*

But we had a AWESOME housewarming on Saturday. Awesome TO THE MAX! (sorry, inside joke) ( Read more... )

For some reason, you look awfully familiar and I'm trying to work out whether I've passed you in the street or something... Hmm... Does bacon actually help with recovery? I've never heard that one before.

Yes it was an interesting Philosopher's Zone this week. You should also listen to the 2007 Massey Lectures from Canada on Big Idea. It features Alberto Manguel and in the first of the series he talks about Cassandra and the significance of her curse never to be heard/believed. Quite interesting. Next Sunday he discusses the significance of Gilgamesh. His books and A History of Reading look good too.

Yes, 5:00 pm Sundays. They don't have a pod download or transcript as it is owned by the Canadian Broadcasting Commission but you can listen to it online for the next four weeks or so.

Go for it! (I was going to send you the ACRSN link, but no need, I see!) Does the show actually draw on Livia as a model?

Uh, not really *blushes* So that might be a problem. If I'd known in time, there could have been a really good paper for the Empires conference in May on Firefly (another Joss Whedon show) as post-colonial text and exploration of Empire.

I just think that you could make a case comparing Livia's use of social markers that make up the dutiful wife stereotype to hide her gender trangressive status (particularly post-Aug), and Buffy's use of the Valley Girl stereotype to hide her gender transgressive status (female warrior). or maybe I'm clutching at straws :D
