Is It Me?

Someone posted some pictures of Ianto's Shrine on Tumblr, with a picture of a paper that says, "& Owens". No. Let Owen get his own shrine. Am I just being petty? This made me angry. Maybe I need to just get over it all, but please, leave Ianto's shrine alone, people. Anyone?

No, you're not being petty. I wholeheartedly agree with you. Leave Ianto's Shrine alone!

Never seen it, except in pictures, but I love the thought & feelings behind it. You cannot take a shrine erected for one revered character & decide, Oh, I think I'll add Owen to this, as an afterthought. It is unseemly & is just not done.

If people want Owen to have a shrine, what's stopping them from setting up one? Just don't touch Ianto's Shrine.

Thank you. I wasn't sure if I was just being picky, but I was kind of offended by it. Ianto is MINE, um, Ianto is OURS, and leave his shrine alone. Doesn't matter if I like Owen or not, it's not his shrine. It really made me angry. Glad it's not just me. :)

If I may give an explanation for that one. I think it originally came from Naoko Mori. She wrote on Twitter where her and Owen's shrine was, and promised a bottle of champaign for the first one to do one. So technically there should be "& Tosh's & Owen's" on the picture you saw, not just Owen.

I understand your feelings though, but I did wonder why the other two deaths did not provoke such a reaction? Fans certainly mourned these characteres as well. I guess they had just not a special place to go to? The Tourist information entry is Ianto's but then again it is also the entry for Torchwood.

When I was at the Miracle Day 2 convention in May, at the fancy costume contest, there actually were two people dressed as the shrine. They won a price as it was absolutely awesome done.

I came so late into the fandom that it all already had happened when I finally watched it, so I was spoilered and the impact gone a little sadly. But then I was always a Jack girl myself ;)

Tosh and Owen's deaths were heart-breaking, it's true, but somehow, Ianto's death was devastating to a lot of fans. Tosh and Owen had their stories, and we kind of knew them pretty well, but Ianto had so much left untold, unexplained, and he, rather than Gwen, was really the character a lot of us identified with, and we needed more. It was like losing a real life person, almost, like part of you just wasn't there anymore ( ... )
