I'm going to call you once I've finished the dishes, and I'll finish the dishes once I've started them, and I'll start them once I get off the internet and I'm getting off the internet in about three minutes, so expect a call. :P

Melbourne has a slightly different focus than Monash (ie you get to do Haskell in First Year, eww).
Oh hi, by the way. I'm Fry. Last year comp sci at Monash :)

I'd heard there were some differences in the programs- do you think it's a good shift in focus, a bad one [Haskell? Excuse my ignorance u_u] or just a shift? Back when I was running the Open Day circuit I was actually more impressed with Monash IT than I was with Melbourne, but Monash doesn't offer my course any more, so the decision was sorta made for me.
How's the course treating you? Any tips for a lowly first year like myself?

I don't know if any tips I give will be applicable to Melbourne, but don't stress too much, have a good time, only go to tutes if you feel you need to and keep on top of things. Nobody cares if you don't turn up to lectures (which is a nice change from high school), except your-future-self-at-exam-time.
I hope you enjoy Law. My dad was Dean of Arts at Melbourne before moving to Dean of Law at Monash this year :D

Heh, I hope I enjoy law too- I find it interesting in theory, but it doesn't make me sit up and pay attention quite like the IT side of things does. (Then again, neither does anything else...) Nevertheless, a lack of anything approaching spare time over the past couple of years has meant that my 'interest', er, isn't well reflected in my actual abilities where computers are concerned. This, however, is a state of affairs I'm intending to change... ;]
Couldn't help but notice your FLCL icon. ♥

Computer Science/Law... Wow, what an awesome combination.
Hmmm.. You know, as a IT security/legal expert, you have a seriously good future.
Take it your family were OK wrt "that" natural disaster?

I'd like to hope so. :] Especially since I might have that future while pursuing two career paths I'm acually interested in, because I wouldn't ask for much for than that.
And all my family are safe, thankfully, although there were a few narrow escapes and some very fortunate last-minute changes of travel plans...

Yeah, I can imagine your employment future is very secure indeed. Probably with the ITU (heck, aim high).
Glad to hear that your family is safe. I must confess I was quite worried.
BTW... Way OT... Do you want to join a PBeM roleplaying game set in the malay archipelago, early 16th century? Thought you might be able to provide a bit of extra insight to it all...

(Besides, after a long period of creative inactivity, the only characters who've had the tenacity to stick around are almost exclusively career criminals or firmly rooted in a modern/futuristic setting, and most of them are both. I won't deny that it sounds interesting, but I'm not sure I'd be able to cope until I finally throw off this writer's block. *hand-on-forehead writerly angst*)
But you did suggest (a while back) that we needed to plot, and that that plot or proto-plot had something to do with your need to re-read Shockwave Rider...?

Glad you're having fun at Uni.

I should drop in at school some time (and give Lain back her CDs).

Yes. Matter of fact, how's this weekend? :P
Seriously, it doesn't matter, they'll probably let me in without a second glance. It has worked several times at Crown Casino, at least (although I was wearing a suit. Then again, when am I not?)
