I guess I'm just looking for a little place to belong on lj at the moment. I've recently personally denounced my long-time Christian faith and I feel this is a safe place to maybe make a public declaration out of purely psychological need to do so.

You're not alone. I'm British. Few people over here would disagree with anything you've written. They'd see it as simple common sense. Which is what it is.

There are, of course, many versions of Christianity. Some are socially liberal, many are quite happy to accept that the Bible is a fallible, human document.

I've spent a lifetime exploring religion and spirituality. I've been a Christian and a Pagan and now I try to dodge labels. It's been a long and winding road..

I call myself a Catholic agnostic, meaning I was raised Catholic and some of that still informs who I am, sometimes unconsciously.

As a former Catholic, I was never taught that the Christian Bible was the literal word of God and so for me that aspect was not issue, but I can appreciate it is difficult for one who was taught that it was inerrant.

Your thoughts on the Bible are, I think, well written and to the point.
