Has anyone here donated milk? How did it go? Where did you donate? What about selling milk?
I ask because I am pumping 60-80 oz a day and my son drinks around 45 oz a day. My freezer is full!

Selling milk seems unkind to me.

You can look into donating to your local hospital for use by preemies. You can join milkshare on yahoogroups and find a person who you would be happy to donate to.

When I had supply issues, I received donor milk from my best friend whose son is 2 days younger than my daughter. But once my daughter had food allergies, I had to pump for a week and couldn't give it to her because the milk had her allergens (dairy, egg, nut, soy) in it. Through milkshare I found a mom who was relactating to breastfeed her adoptive son and I felt great about giving her my milk.

Usually you'll need to provide paperwork from your doctor declaring you in good health, hiv negative, and depending on the person who's accepting the milk, free of other sti's. From what I hear and my own experience we met halfway between our homes.

As someone who had SO MUCH trouble making milk for her child, I'd encourage you to pay it forward. You're one of the lucky ones--I would have killed for your problem.

I can't find any place in state to donate it. I maybe donating it to a hospital in another state, but I was hoping for a local option for me...

Ask your closest hospital for their lactation department and then ask them where you can donate (it may be there).

I donated through Mother's Milk Bank both of my pregnancies. It was pretty interesting. They took the milk I had stored in freezer bags and in pretty much any other sterilized container that I used. They also at one point provided me with containers. They also gave me little certificates every 3000 ounces with seemed silly at first, but kind of neat later.

I got a letter from one of the recipients (done anonymously through the center) thanking me for providing milk that the mother couldn't. She adopted a baby that was born prematurely to a mother that had mental issues and drug addiction and wrote that she believed the baby's resilience was due to the donations. So I can't recommend enough donating your milk if you can.

There is a yahoo group called milkshare. I donated milk for several months. It was a local mom and I got to meet the baby. It was a good experience for us.
