Pet Issues

Jun 17, 2012 00:56

So, we have two Guinea pigs now. :D
But just 3 days ago, we had no intention of getting any more pets (We have a cat already, which I'll get to in a minute).
What happened?

I've only had to worry about Sandie bringing back bugs. She's not fast enough to catch rabbits and squirrels. Thank god.

Cute piggies.

You are lucky! KiKi doesn't bring back bugs..., only mammals, except for occasional lizards... orz

Thanks! ;D

OMG SO CUTE.

I love guinea pigs! I had a load of them when I was younger, and my sister has some now, and they are so gorgeous!

I'm glad you're getting a new cage, that one wouldn't even be big enough for one piggy - the bigger cage will make them smell good for longer and they can waddle around :D Hope you're prepared for lots of high pitched squeaking and clucking when they want food XD

Sorry about the bunny D: Baby animals are so fragile as it is, even with the adamant care of their mothers, so to have gone through that with your kitty cat and the stress of the situation, you really did everything you could.

LOL, the guinea pigs' names XDDD Your boys are so funny and adorable!

MMM NUTELLA.

*Edit: Also! If you ever need any help or have questions about your piggies send me a message - I'm fairly knowledgeable myself, but my sister is a zoologist and an animal enthusiast who also used to work in a pet shop, so she knows the perfect way to care for pets, but especially rodents! <3

Oh, AWESOME!!
Thank you for offering your support, I actually do have a question already. XD

I've been seeing on YT people using wood chips as well as people using fleece blankets for their pig's cage. Which one did you use?
After seeing some videos, it looks to me like fleece is more economical and easier to clean, and allows more plushie things like cushions to be placed in the cage (wood chips will stick to them too much). Right now, we're using wood chips, but spot-cleaning the cage isn't exactly piece of cake unless you replace lots of wood chips each time. 9_9
Any advice on fleece vs bedding (wood chips)?

We're getting a new, much bigger cage tomorrow, hopefully they'll be a lot more comfortable then. It really is too small right now. =/
Right now, they're still pretty nervous and shy around us. We're trying to let them get used to us gradually.

Thanks, Amy. I never realized how very fragile rabbits are! :'/

Hi ValVal, sorry for the late reply! >.<

Fleece blankets are better for the piggies, but they'll get dirty and smelly very fast so it'd be best if you bought a few sets so you can easily change one out for another while a set's in the wash.

They also love, love, love hay, both for snacking and making their beds out of - it also smells really nice, IMHO >3< If you have any cardboard boxes off things, like a toaster or something, they love playing and sleeping and hiding in those, too ( ... )

Thanks, BB!!! :D

I just went to the store and got three different patterns of fleece, 1.5 yards each. XD
I'm supposed to wash it three times in order to wick it properly, so I'm finally almost done with the third wash! :'D
I really hope the fleece will pass water/pee well, or it certainly will get dirty and smelly. >.I'm laying down two towels under the fleece, and a water-proof pee pads (for the elderly) underneath those towels for good measure! I surely hope it'll work! :S ( ... )

My best friend had a guinea pig (passed from sickness), she was huge, but friend loved her dearly.

Heh, ironically enough years ago when my older sister moved back in with her new dog, she was hoping to get a little brother for her to play with. Our dad gave her the big NO for a good while. Now we have a newly turned 3 year old little boy running around. He was a puppy mill rescue, so it took him a while to get use to us, but he is full of love and also a klutz lol.

I always wanted a rabbit, but my household is insane. Don't want to give the little guy a heart attack from all the crazy, so I opted to get my other child hood pet I long for when I move out...a miniature pot belly pig :D. I have plans to get a kitty and a couple dogs too.

It's understandable about your kitty, some just like the outdoors. Even though cats and dogs are house pets, they are still considered predators, so what she does is natural, even if it drives you batty. But yeah, watch the kitty for a while, she's lurking *shifty eyes*

One (Cutie Pie) of the two brothers is eating a lot and getting much bigger than his brother... ^^;;;

Awww, it's a wonderful thing to rescue an animal... Glad yours turned out to be a loving one. ^^

A miniature pot belly pig, WOW! *0*
You are an animal enthusiast! ^^

Oh, yes, it's can be very gross and disgusting when KiKi brings her catch home, but I know she's doing what she's supposed to do. :'3

Oh, cats are great, I hope you can get one. And a couple of dogs. XD

So far, KiKi's been largely ignoring the piggie cage. I am puzzled... LOL
