Tattoo the Mario

I'm pretty tired of the cultural fetishization of childhood video games among people in their twenties and early thirties. Recently a friend of mine was talking about how she knows someone who got a Zelda tattoo. The other day I saw someone with a tattoo of Luigi in all his 8-bit glory. Those of you know me know I am not generally a fan of tattoos ( Read more... )

"Will these people spend their mid-life crises modding their motorcycle helmets to look like Master Chief? Will men start sporting goatees and black, thick-framed glasses in order to appear more like Gordon Freeman?"

As a firm supporter of tattoos I'm a little biased, but honesty the whole point of getting ANYTHING tattooed on you is because it's important to you in some aspect. If anything your major complaint should be people who get tattoos 'just because' or because they're trying to be ironically hip. There's a whole slew of tattoos like that and they're infinitely worse/more regretable than some kid trying to pay tribute to their childhood.

This rule doesn't apply when people who have never even touched a nintendo get old school nintendo tattoos. Then I just hate them.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of certain video games & I don't have a problem with other people getting tattoos, but I completely understand what you mean. I mean not to judge anybody, but I just don't understand it- it seems highly unlikely unless you are the creator of the Mario Brothers that Luigi can have that much of a deep-rooted meaning to you, enough so to get it stabbed onto your body forever. & you have no idea how many people I've seen with newer video-game tattoos as well, the other day I was walking along & I met some guy with a GIANT keyblade tattoo covering his entire forearm. I mean I love me some Kingdom Hearts, but come on man.

gettin an 8-bit tattoo is the equivalent of gettin a tattoo of a cassette tape. Retro is all the rage!
