While I love that I'm majoring in writing in college, part of me hates that I went to college at all. I just did it because that's what you do, and because I like learning about writing, but lately... I've been trying to decide what I'll actually do, career wise, besides write and make no money. And every time i look at something to do, I am very apathetic about it. And I keep returning to the old romantic, work-in-a-coffee-shop-and-freelance, living on a little, ideal. And I'd like it, but it would be a terrible waste of a degree and my parents probably wouldn't be happy. And I always wonder if I had designed my life depending on writing, if I would be more successful at it?
Why do I always make the best entries in comments on other people's journals?
this may or may not make sense in relation to what you wroteexcusemyfrenchNovember 27 2005, 01:19:14 UTC
I can't imagine that there is truly any real way to waste a degree. I suppose one could argue that going to college and not getting a decent-paying job could be a waste of it. But I think knowledge for the sake of knowledge and learning more about things you like are all good in their own rights. Of course, I'm saying this all and yet I have never applied to any college and may or may not in the near future. All I know is that it is definitely a good thing that you are majoring in writing since you are good at it and enjoy it. Stick with what you want right now and what makes you happy, and if at some point you change your mind or decide you don't like it, change then. You could make a killing doing something else possibly, but what's the point if you won't be happy?
Your entries are ace and so are your comments lady! It would be pretty neat though if you copied and pasted all your comments once into a big ol' entry.
I'm really glad that you are hanging out with us more often. Haha, while I do get a little embarassed over how I conduct myself in front of you after a few drinks, I really enjoy you hanging out with all of us. Even though you can seem pretty shy, you always manage to add somthing to the group. I know everyone seems to like your company I've never thought of you to be "tagging along". I love that we all get along in such a tight knit bunch. Hanging out on Friday was one of the best parts of my holiday vacation. I hope you can make it more of our get togethers :)
I would post them but I can't find the cd to load my scanner onto my new-to-me computer, so no photographs til I find it :( I'll just show you next time I see you. They are soooo funny!
and i'm glad it doesn't seem like I'm tagging along at all, because I really don't want to be one who tags along. it's just nice because I know mostly everyone and nearly everyone is pretty lovely, and cause I don't get to see my brother as often as I used to (like, when we lived in the same house)
