This project began when I decided it would make an interesting art piece to make a small Seimei effigy and set it on fire, in homage to a certain moment from the series -- except this would be actual Seimei's execution.
I don't, incidentally, hate Seimei. This wasn't anything so simple as a petty act of hate. It's an art piece, and it's up to you to decide what you think I intended by it.
I began with the paper model and origami chair you see above, but while it looked dramatic before it was lit, it went up in flames too quickly to make a good photo sequence. So I made a more durable effigy from clay, and a chair out of wood (and more clay).
This is what resulted.
Tiny ear.
Tiny turtleneck.
Little fuzzy head.
Take a good long look at him. Poor little Seimei is soon to go up in flames.
The oil comes down.
The little paint lump almost makes it look like he's sweating.
The chair wasn't particularly sturdy.
Tiny, oil-slicked Seimei curls.
Now the whole classroom's on fire.
The fire's got his head.
The big blistering "smile" across his face is one of the most frightening parts of this whole sequence, I feel. It reminds me of surrealist music videos I watched as a child, of people's faces widening and cracking.
Smoking will give you lung cancer, Seimei.
The green fire of magic. Perhaps he reaches out to Soubi in these last moments.
We extinguished the fire, eventually, by throwing baking soda on him. It's like he died in the snow.
Tiny crispy ear.
After all that, we couldn't bring ourselves not to give him a sendoff. The box of bandages was a fitting coffin, I thought.
rubyprism digging the shallow grave.
Blood on my hands.
And it's done.
