December 24th
10PM, Eastern Standard Time
I Can't believe a year went by so fast.
Time to see what we have time to see.
Turn the projector on!

1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
Went to England, flew overseas and back in a week, worked full time for the full length of a semester, bought a TV, saw the same musical live three times in a year.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't do resolutions.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Thank goodness, no.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Nope.

5. What countries did you visit?
I was living in Austria, and during 2004 I visited the US, Germany, the UK, and moved back to the US.

6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
A benefits package. A better exchange rate for the dollar.

7. What date(s) from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Valentine's Day Weekend - Katsucon
?? March - Return of the Git
Easter Week - London
5 July - Return from Austria
?? Aug - Otakon (I should look that up...)
And all the little things that one can never forget.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Surviving my term as an ex-pat.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not securing something that would have let me stay an ex-pat or a real job upon my return.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Thankfully just some colds and my popped filling.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
I always think that theatre tickets are amongst the best things, esp. when it's something special.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Certainly not mine. Everybody who put up with my angsting and who helped me during with the week-o-secrecy.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Religious Righties, those who let their rights get trampled, and as always, for twenty-three straight years, my own.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Food, rent, DVDs.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
London, hands down.

16. What song will always remind you of 2004?
"Ein Traum" from Barbarella, probably some others that I'm not thinking of. I organise my MP3s by month/season and year, so it's easy to find stuff that reminds me of a certain time.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Last year I was living in Europe. Sadder by default.
ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter, or at least feeling it more.
iii. richer or poorer? Employment = money = richer, but in poorer spirits.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Travel. I really wasted my time not visiting the Eastern bloc, more of Germany, etc. I also wish I'd kept taking photos upon getting back to the US, but I feel as though I've lost my muse.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Lazying around.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Alone, again. Or with Eric hanging around being annoying.

22. (WTF happened to 21?) Did you fall in love in 2004?
Nope.

23. How many one-night stands?
Nill.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Dead Like Me, Good Eats, Coupling S4

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate's an awfully strong word, but there are definately those for whom my already limited patience has decreased.

26. What was the best book you read?
I didn't get to read as much as I should have, but I did read Gaiman's "Smoke and Mirrors", which was lovely, some great manga, and of course "American Scream".

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
The score from Barbarella, American Idiot, the new Alanis CD, Springer: The Opera...

28. What did you want and get?
To live abroad. To visit London. To see Wicked. A regular paycheque.

29. What did you want and not get?
Paid vacation.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
I didn't go to many films this year, but I *did* see Galaxy Express 999 for the first time, and it was in a cinematic setting and just blew me away.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I went to work, came home, worked on God Mars, and slept. I turned 23. tick, tick...BOOM.

32.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Being 100% fluent in German.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?
Overly laundered. I didn't buy any new clothes until I got back to the US so I had a very limited wardrobe in Austria.

34. What kept you sane?
A-C, music, lots of dvds, photography

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I don't really do celebrities.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

Who I thought I was.

38. Who was the best new person(s) you met?
All the cool Austrians.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004
"Our real illiteracy is our inability to create." --Friedenreichs Hundertwasser

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"I've been wondering if all the things I've seen were ever real, or ever really happening."
--Sheryl Crow, Every Day is a Winding Road
