I wish I still had my fuck icon...

It looks like my mac has fallen prey to the faulty nvidia cards of death. To rub salt in the wound, it'll be two days before the apple store will look at it and i'm likely to lose what's on my hd in the process. In the interim i'm looking for an alternative serviced and am stuck with either living at a net cafe or relying on my iPhone.

Yo, mine needed a new motherboard and new display back in '06. They told me there was a chance I could lose everything on it, but despite literally tearing the whole laptop apart and rebuilding it, they didn't touch a single byte on the drive.

Did you try to see if the HDD was removable? (i.e. a few screws and a board in the way)

It is.... very easily at that. I upgraded my MacBook's hard drive about a week ago, and the only tricky part was that I had to run out to the hardware store to get a #8 Torx driver since I didn't have any Torx that small. Other than that, I could have done it with my pocket knife (OK, in fairness, I have a pocket knife designed for working on computers, but...).

I was actually going to suggest removing the hard drive before taking it in... if they're going to send it off, I don't see why they're need a drive- they've gotta have a generic one lying around to run things off of.

Actually managed to find a third party serviced at the las minute yesterday who take AppleCare and recall work and promised not to wipe anything. Should have it back in 3 to 5.
