Academic FAIL. EPIC FAIL.
This is fail of the epic kind. The type where rocks fall and everybody dies.
I'd seen Jared Diamond's books around and had every intention of getting around to reading one at some point. Those who know me well will recognise this to mean that I will get around to reading it but god only knows when.

See also why I got out of Dead Sea Scrolls work. Glory hounds with shiny explanations and bad scholarship get the publicity and therefore the book contracts and grants. Screw that.
Diamond is beyond dodgy. He's right up there with Ian Plimer, whose global warming denial stuff has to be seen to be believed. I'm thinking of starting a "dodgy scholarship" shelf in my bookcases.
(Btw, there's no differentiation anymore between libel and slander. It's all defamation.)
