Background on Anya & Vengeance Demons

Jul 12, 2007 23:36

Vengeance demons have the power of The Wish. They can sense when someone wants revenge and will feel drawn to their location. When the person makes a wish out loud ("I wish ..."), the vengeance demon can make their wish come true, no matter how impossible it may sound. In her first episode, Anya changed reality itself when Cordelia Chase wished that Buffy Summers had never come to Sunnydale.

Anyanka decided to specialize in providing vengeance for women who had been wronged by men. For over a thousand years, she 'brought ruin to the heads of unfaithful men' all over the world. (She may have been partially responsible for the Russian Revolution, but that's another story.)

Anyanka would appear as a human and talk to a woman, gradually guiding her into expressing a wish for vengeance. She sees it as helping the wronged woman get what she truly wants.

Some other vengeance wishes granted by Anya in canon:

  • "So then this one time, this girl wished her ex would cannibalize himself. Even I had a hard time watching that, let me tell you."
  • "I was there cursing a shepherd who had been unfaithful. His wife had wished that all his sheep would lie with..."
  • "I inflicted a lot of putrefying diseases on men when I was an avenging demon..."
  • "Vengeance wishes on ex boyfriends. I'd wish he was a dog or ugly or in love with president McKinley or something."
  • "Waitress downtown wished her husband was a frog? You made him French."
  • Turned an unfaithful man into a giant slug
  • Called a spider demon to eat a group of frat boys

Mod Approved Rules for Vengeance Wishes on Island:

  1. Wishes will only work on residents of the island. No wishing curses on people who aren't there.
  2. All wishes require the consent of all players involved.
  3. Wishes cannot contradict the basic rules of the island. No wishing people off the island.
  4. Wishes will wear off after some undetermined period of time (probably within two days). No permanent wishes.
