scott,

next time you're at a conference, take a look around yourself and ask what kind of 'boundaries' you see represented.

if you don't see any, or if you don't think race has to do with any of them, you need to look a lot harder.

'ultra-liberal' is a bad thing since when? UUs have always been ultra-liberal. greg is an asset to your community, and if you don't understand why, that's on no one but you.

Tim, it's basic political theory. I'm not criticizing ultra-liberalism, just look at history. Radicalism has never brought about change for the better, and breeds reactionaries, which is what is happening right here in this community. Ultra-liberalism is radicalism, it is backward progress. A lot of people have been alienated by this approach who would have been wholeheartedly willing to try and help. As to boundaries at cons, I never absolved myself of all blame or knowledge, nor said that they are not an issue. As to race in Unitarian Universalism and at cons, of course it's going to be a major factor. I never said it wasn't. As Greg probably has said, Unitarian Universalism is mostly a religion for rich white people. I can recognize that, and I'm aware of it. How do I deal with it? I don't look at people's color. Am I denying their heritage or who they are? No, that's nationality, that's ethnicity. Those are things everyone has and can be proud of. Being color blind in that sense is what I consider true progress, not ( ... )
