$100 pile of junk

A couple of months ago, my old, reliable HP Deskjet 540 ran out of ink. Looking at the marginal costs, it was only twice as expensive to buy a multifunction colour printer/scanner/copier as to replace the ink. So we splashed out for a Brother DCP-150C, simply because the extra functionality would be useful even if we didn't use it much. Then ( Read more... )

Ah, so this is what happened to my parents' printer. I couldn't tell them why their colour ink had run out and why the printer wouldn't work without it being refilled. They were incredibly confused and frustrated by the experience - and its the non-computer savvy who really get chewed through by this kind of nonsense.

Horrible.

Nope. I'm in much the same situation, with an almost-dead Epson printer, but my sporadic efforts to buy a new printer haven't exactly inspired me to buy. So do let us know if you find anything.
