They're the Talking Heads! The Talking Heads are paradigmatically 80s; the Violent Femmes are derivatively 90s. If you are anything like me, your memories of the Violent Femmes involve listening to "Blister in the Sun" in Candace + Stephanie Brendler's basement in seventh grade while making out with [this may be where my Violent Femmes memories diverge from yours].
All three posted scenes come from Jonathan Demme's flick "Stop Making Sense," the DVD of which was bought by me not two weeks ago. It's one of the two best concert films I know of (the other being Martin Scorsese's The Last Walz).

my coworker keeps recommending me Stop Making Sense, he is a rahter big Talking Heads fan. i think i'm finally understanding new wave a little better these days. i still dont know where it came from.
