I went back to Pembroke today to take pictures of the Josie Langmaid monument and to go see her grave. The video about her murder still hasn't arrived yet, but when I get it I will let you know mozartfan1313 if it is likely the one who was executed really murdered her or not.

This really intrigues me because it just seems like such a grand gesture for some apparently randomly murdered girl. Do you know if she was the daughter of some prominent townsperson or something? I'm just really curious, because though all murders are awful, a fair amount happen, but very, very, few, at least that I know of, get such a huge & grand monument in recognition.

Well, it was a small town and she was known and loved by everyone. I think it just shocked them, the townspeople all rallied together in the condemnation of her death. I don't know too too much because the video has yet to arrive and there is hardly any information out on the net. It's just the same as now - some missing children make huge headlines and others are completely skipped over by the American public.

Hopefully the video will reveal something about her brother's death as well. That must have been so unbelievably devastating for their parents to lose two teens only a year apart from one another.

I would very much like to hear your thoughts on the video when you get around to watching it. The reason why I asked if they found the right killer or not is because, back before proper DNA evidence, people were charged with crimes totally based on heresay. I just finished a history essay about a murder in Virginia in 1895 and how the wrong people were accused of this woman's death.

I find it kind of eerie how the monument basically tells you that Josie was beheaded. Yuck.

Yep, and they had stone markers that marked where her body was found and where her head was found. I should have taken photos of those too.
