[ Day 18 | video ]

[Hello, ladies and gentlemen. It's time for another lame-o science call!]

How many of you knew each other before coming here? I've been thinking about the spacetime continuum in reference to this place and it's really rather fascinating. There are four people here that I knew before, back home. Only one of them is from roughly the same point in time ( Read more... )

I knew a couple of people from before... but what does the rest of that mean?

Are these people from your past, present, or future?

I'm essentially saying that whatever happens here could affect what happens in our own personal timelines, thus affecting anyone remaining here who happens to be from a future point in the timeline. Does that make sense?

I think it was from my... past. One of them anyway, since I don't think she'd have been quite as happy to see me otherwise. The other I knew from another island we were both on before here.

[He'd elaborate further, but... the idea of things changing is a little disconcerting.]

The person from my world, you're saying if she knew what was going to happen in her future and my past, she might be able to change it? And it might change things for me?

Theoretically? She could. However at this point I'm more interested in what people from the past could inadvertently alter about the future simply by being here since it's likely that upon their return home they forget that they ever were here, thus moving through time exactly as they would before. I hear that death doesn't seem to be a permanent state in this place, though, so that has changed my ideas a little.

...I think I might have understood that.

[It's a little hard to tell okay.]

If so, I hope you're right that nothing changes. I'd rather not have parts of my past undone.

If it's any consolation, you'd likely never realize anything had changed.

[Just... staring at him for a moment.]

And exactly how is that supposed to be reassuring?

Oh.

Um.

I guess it's not, is it? But if you think about it not remembering should be a little comforting, considering. [Ok so it's not at all. Whatever. :( ]
