003 Audio [Day Four, Daytime]

((The following recording is taken from this thread))

[The camera pans to a trail of slime leading towards the shore. Who ever's recording is following it until it guides him just out of reach of the tide to a rocky area.]

The trail ends here.

[Some of you may recognize Sai's voice. Now we see the slime simply disappearing around a large pile of rocks ( Read more... )

[As impressed and approving of the organization as Eliot is for this monster hunt, he cannot just stand by and watch without making comment. Not when the young man on the other end is suggesting people go down into a nest of those things and likely never come back.

Nevermind the surprise of hearing his roommate's voice speaking in translated English. Or that he saw squiggles of ink go into a tunnel. There were some things that just shouldn't be done.]

Do that and people are just gonna get killed. There's recon, and there's suicide missions. That sounds awfully like the latter to me.

Those things are afraid of fire. I suggest blockin' any tunnel exits and just takin' them out with a blaze.

[Talking of likelihood too.]

I've had enough of'em. Not walkin' into their homes uninvited.

[He nods, respecting his stance.]

It's a dangerous mission with no guarantees. It's why a voluntary mission.

[All this is audio anyway.]

Right. None of my business if people wanna kill themselves.

It's a reconnaissance mission, not a suicidal one.

Thank you for the suggestion, Mr. Eliot. [Surprise surprise! Guess who it is again. This guy!] I know of someone capable of producing fire at will. He might come in handy.

Will you be taking part in this mission?

[Can't say he's surprised by now. This kid seems to be popping up everywhere, monitoring everything. Not a bad thing, considering, but he's still trying to decide what to think about it.]

If they're sendin' people in to those holes and caves? Hell, no. I don't got a suicide wish, buddy.

I see.

[Good. You're not expendable just yet, Eliot, especially since Near still hasn't found any allies living closer to him.]

Alright then.

[Unless you have something more to say, he ends the conversation there.]

[The accent is distintive enough that Light does recall hearing it on the network before. Of course he doesn't have a name or a face to associate with it thanks to the damn anonymous function the people running the intranet thought would be amusing to enable, but he knows whoever it is has spoken to Big Boss before.

Ultimately this person's identity isn't of immediate importance; Light already knows this isn't Near's speaking voice, as "N" had already taken the liberty of contacting Big Boss by text message, and most likely wouldn't bother doing something as pointless as contacting the man twice.Of course this mission is dangerous. That's why I'm requesting those with special abilities to step forward. As far as blocking the tunnel exit goes, the reason I hesitate to do this immediately is because that's the only opening we've located thus far. According to Sai's preliminary report, the underground network of this tunnel is labyrinthine. If we're intelligent about this, we may be able to find the rest of the openings to the surface ( ... )

Name's Eliot.

[Eliot wasn't too keen on the idea, even if there does seem to be people with special abilities running around. Super soldiers, or people with abilities who should be given such a title if such things existed to begin with.]

Yeah, but that's still a mighty big risk. Unnecessary. You don't go sealin' tunnels by followin' the enemy underground, that's fightin' the enemy on their turf, in their homes, for God's sakes. You're jumpin' the gun, and you'll just get people killed.

A pleasure, Eliot.

Again, I understand your concerns, which is precisely why I had asked those who may be able to send in non-corporeal projections of themselves down into the tunnels to take a look around. I can assure you that I don't believe in playing games with life, nor do I believe in fighting senseless battles. If there is no-one suitable for the job, then I would agree that the best course of action is to destroy the entrance.

Non-corporeal. [Now he can't take you seriously.] Tell me how that goes.

[Skepticism? Well, it's to be expected. Honestly, prior to meeting Ryuk, Light would have raised an eyebrow at the words coming out of his mouth as well. Obviously, he's not going to bother explaining himself.]

I'll be glad to. Do you have a preferred means of contact? I don't exactly have a means of reaching you if you're anonymous.

Sorry, man. Not fond of havin' my info all over these networks.

Post lookin' for Eliot. Or a public post about your discovery. I'll keep an eye out.

[Which has quite a lot of interesting ramifications. This person doesn't strike Light as a person who uses the anonymous function for the sake of remaining anonymous. This person may not have any special abilities and is keeping a lower profile, or this person may have some shady past. Possibly both. For the moment it's irrelevant; Light has no intentions on fighting battles here with people that aren't involved in his life.]

Fair enough. I'm sure we'll speak again in the future, Eliot.
