[The downside of having long hair is that it's a pain when it's windy, but that doesn't seem to bother Girge at all as he holds back his hair with his free hand-along with strips of bandages that occasionally whip in his face. It's probably not too hard to notice the splotch of dried blood on them... and even less hard to notice the splotch of ( Read more... )

[More newcomers. It's worse when some of them are so convinced this is little worse than a sort of strange game, though.]

I don't imagine you'll be quite that happy about it after a day or so. But about those bandages... you're not badly hurt, are you?

Do you really think so? I get the feeling that I'm going to like it here.

And I'm quite fine.

Do you have some sort of interest in being made to fight things regularly on the promise you might possibly get to leave some day then? I can't say I'm any stranger to combat, but that doesn't mean I look forward to it by any means.

[He won't press about the blood, then. After all, he's equally no stranger to seeing people splattered in someone else's blood either.]

No.

[A pause, and before Anders might get the wrong idea-]

I've got no interest in leaving, so I don't care about that part.

You're not? [It's not really too surprising, in one way. He has his own reasons to be hesitant about leaving.]

I don't suppose you'd be willing to explain why? Or do you just like the idea of fighting a lot?

[... Both, actually.]

Why don't you guess?

Possibly because I can think of a number of reasons not to want to leave. Maybe because you have reason to think you won't live very long if you do, or that you'll have something else bad happen to you, and here seems a better chance. Maybe you don't have anywhere to go back to at all, or you've lost so much that you don't see a reason to. Or maybe you just don't think that this place will be so bad and don't want to leave yet.

That was certainly thorough. And which one of those options do you think it is in my case?

In all honesty, I'm hoping it's the last. I don't wish this sort of place or fate on anyone.

And what exactly makes it so horrible?

... Aside from this group's decision to not allow me to prepare myself for this game of theirs, anyway.

You mean beyond getting dragged here with no say in the matter and no idea when it will end, if ever?

Aside from that, yes. I've no complaints about those facts.

War isn't any different, is it? You don't know when it'll end, and it's possible to be dragged into it against your will.

That's... very true.

[Not to mention a little painful to think about. The upcoming war in Thedas will drag many people into it against their will, for all that he still knows it must happen.]

But a war isn't for someone's entertainment, it isn't treated like a game.

Some might beg to differ! It... all depends on how you look at it.
