DAY 19 | VIDEO

Nov 14, 2011 10:18

[Video flickers in and out, one long black fingernail tapping on the screen, before finally resolving. He smiles his slow charming smile of far too many teeth.]

I'm not sure who you think you are, but I can assure you that you will live a long time regretting my capture.

[He pauses, glancing around then back into the device, teeth and claws gone. ( Read more... )

[If he hadn't already learned a little about all the other worlds people came from, all these new arrivals with strange words and ideas would have helped drive the point home well enough.]

I'm afraid you're far from being the only one angry about being brought here against their will. Nor the only one who's a little... different from normal humans.

[Stares into the device shaking it slightly, then sighs. ]

So I had surmised already. Had I known I was broadcasting on an open band, I would have been less forthcoming.

I can understand that.

[He still has more than a few secrets of his own from the people here, and he's not keen to have them openly known.]

Although, there is some merit to knowing you're not as alone, in some cases.

[He would actually far far prefer to be alone or at least, alone with Helen if there had to be someone about. Other people only made everything more difficult.]

Indeed. Who are you then?

Anders, a mage and healer.

[It's still a little strange to say so easily after all this time, but since he's announced it to the island at large already, there's little point in worrying about keeping that part to himself.]

How does that work? Is there magic here too?

[Doesn't write off anything really at this point. Maybe he's better prepared for this kind of thing than he thought after living at the Sanctuary for a while.]

Well, my magic still works here, if that's what you mean. But where I'm from, magic is a part of the world as anything else. Not everyone has access to it, but it isn't like some places I've heard of, which don't have it at all.

[At least this Tesla isn't as immediately doubtful as others have been. Not that having to demonstrate anything is difficult for him, but it's still nice to be trusted as speaking the truth from the beginning.]

Our reality has more of an underground magical creature scene. Most of the magic has a scientific explanation. How do you explain the source on your world?

[Nikola scans the area, his interest is more than idle. He wants to know everything he can about everyone he'll meet here, so that when he gets back he can add that knowledge to his research.]

Oh, there's the mage underground in Thedas too. [He hesitates, anger and guilt warring briefly in his expression.] Or at least there was...

[But Tesla didn't ask about that, so he swiftly switches to the other topic.]

If you truly wish to know... Magic is connected to the Fade in my world. From what little I've heard, most people don't seem to have something like the Fade. [Which confuses him about a few things but... anyway.]

It's where people's minds go when they're dreaming, a forever changing place shaped by the minds of those visiting it in their sleep. It's also the home of spirits and demons, though most people don't know much about the former. Spirits are happy enough to ignore our world, but demons... they seek to gain access to the mortal world. Since mages are linked to the Fade more closely than most, demons will approach them, attempting to take their bodies by force or offer them a deal.

How Faustian of them. And did anyone else arrive from your world? When were you taken?

[He'll have to put together a standardized questionnaire. Something he can compile and attack statistically. There are always patterns.]

Someone did but... I haven't seen her for several days now. [He's a little sad about that, but either Isabela is dead or she's been returned to her home, if she's lucky. There's little he can do about either option.]

The year was 9:37 Dragon, by the Chantry calendar. I don't imagine that means much to you, however. Everyone else I've heard mention dates seems to use a system a bit more like the Tevinters. As for how long it's been since I left Thedas... months? The days are strange here, it's a little difficult to tell.

[He was really going to need a notebook and pen at the very least, clearly everyone here had been pulled from worlds he couldn't even imagine. New data, how exciting!]

How are the strange?

The days are fine, but the nights. They feel the length of several days. I suppose that's either why they run their missions then, or because of it.

Perhaps the weird little Japanese kid is right and this is an artificial reality then. I had thought that would be too sophisticated, but clearly they are working with abilities that I had not previously thought available.

I'm afraid I can't really answer that. But even if it is true, they must have kidnapped us to somewhere. Things like these little computers and such, they don't exist in Thedas. I've never heard of anything like them before.

So maybe it's closer to my reality then yours. [He taps the phone thoughtfully against his lips. That means that if he could find out what the means of transportation here had been, he could recreate it to return.]
