"all my indecision, all of my excess, don't you ever tell me I'm not loving you best..."

Oh, this has such awesome potential.  Flist, please do this.

Tell the story of your personal experience with fandom: a sort of fandom timeline.

Oh my god, this has the potential to be embarrassing and crazy

2000: I did a research project for my seventh grade music project on nsync and stumbled upon a fanfiction listing page. Get sucked in. A few months later I stumble upon fanfiction.net. Permanently sucked in. Damn.

2002: I finally see the movie Newsies. I’d heard the song ‘seize the day’ about a million times on one of my sister’s Disney CDs and bought the soundtrack. Love, love, love. Almost immediately start writing and posting my actual first fic.

2003 (?): Get invited to join the Newsies Justice League, quickly dubbed the NJL. To this day I still do not know why… most of my Newsies fic at the time was abysmal. Regardless, make lots of friends and get turned onto some actual good writing and slash. Does anyone remember the writing and drama that ensued in that fandom. I do not care.

2004: At some point go to Brandeis to visit second_batgirl and queenitsy, meeting my first fandom people. We watch ‘Blood Drips…’ Oh the crack. Spend the day talking writing and stories and NJL.

This was the year that I finally got an LJ, thus entering a whole new way of interacting with people and fandom. Along the lines, somewhere, someone got me to listen to the RENT Cast Recording.

Start writing original stories with a friend from high school. Not many of them get good responses or much feedback. Can’t really sink into it.

Fall 2005: Start college, RENT movie comes out. First time I started thinking about a different fandom and actually started looking for fic communities on LJ. Also, create my fic-journal and start working on some RENT fic ideas.

2007: I don’t even remember how it happened but I stumbled upon QAF. Jumped on fandom and fic writing. Was introduced to the practice of writing drabbles.

Also, started reading figletofvenice’s fic journal, reading about various bands… none of which I knew at the time, but found them amazing.

Spring 2008: My dad was diagnosed with Leukemia. As a coping mechanism I chose to live at school for part of the summer and also started looking for new music and writing to distract myself from everything going on. Quickly get more into Fall Out Boy, TAI and find myself liking Panic for the first time. Start reading bandom and doing some rough writing.

June or July 2008: Read a Panic fic involving a band called The Cab. In the coming days find some specific videos on youtube and buy their album. The internet, thankfully, provides a lot of information including videos (thank you, Cash and FBR), LJ groups (thank you canadiankracka), and fic.

Fall 2008: Go to my first of waayyyy too many bandom concerts for the coming year. Write a lot and somehow have my best academic semester ever, and also my best for being social. Someone explain to me how this happened?

Also, the epic Twilight parody was made.

Spring 2009: somehow get sucked into the pairing that is Mike Carden/Kevin Jonas. I know nothing about the Jonas boys and am well aware this pairing is complete crack.

October 2009: After a rough summer of band fallings-apart meet afjdevon, my first bandom person. Make plans for roadtrips and get introduced to other bands. Yay new music.

I think brings us to where I currently am. Not doing to much in the way of writing right now but I’m still pretty active in bandom.

Two more things.

My company has apparently decided to cut all part-time employees to work only 32 hours or less a week. Technically I'm part time. This blows because when I was hired I was guaranteed 40 hours a week. I'm going to be a bitch about this because I vehemently do not want to have to get a second job. I also don't want to go full time because it makes taking time off more difficult and is way more than I'm willing to give to this company. Argh! Fuck. My. Life.

Also, my sister has put me in charge of making up the name for our Relay for Life team this year. Any ideas? Please reccommend.

real life, work
