Auditing

Can you get dicked for a course you are auditing? I'm considering auditing an A format class (Chinese 110), one of the principal reasons being to avoid 4 dickeys from sleeping in. (The other is that I want to learn Chinese.)

Thanks.

mrs. fontaine is awesome and will usually call you if you sleep through a class so you can get there without getting a dickey. (try to suck up to her, she grades on how much she likes you :))

a number of teachers consider multiple consecutive absences an unofficial "drop" out of the class, especially so if you're auditing.

The whole point of auditing is that you're not actually getting credit for the course, so if you don't show up or don't do the work, you're not penalized. You may get an "Uh-Oh!" e-mail, but the absence will be excused. Ask a faculty member or someone who's audited something to be sure, but having had friends who audited courses like there was no tomorrow, I'm 99.623% sure that's the case.

you don't get a dickey but the teacher probably won't be happy about multiple absences -- and won't be as willing to let you audit another of her classes some other time (for example, if she's teaching Chinese 120 winter term and you want to audit it)
